What is RecyClass certification?
RecyClass is a system established in 2018 that is still little known and used in Hungary. It is a non-profit, cross-sectoral initiative to keep plastics circulating in the economy. The scheme promotes the recovery of plastic packaging waste across Europe by testing and certifying recoverability and ensuring the traceability of recycled plastic content. This certification scheme helps buyers of plastic products to find out and even prove whether the product they buy can be recovered when it becomes waste and/or what proportion of recycled plastic it contains.
To this end, a RecyClass certification system has been developed to ensure the recyclability of plastics and reliable traceability of the origin of plastic waste, as well as the calculation and verification of recycled content in plastic products.
How does the RecyClass tracking system work?
The first element of the recycled plastics value chain is the waste recovery plant itself. RecyClass has developed a set of requirements for recovery methods for pre- and post-consumer plastic waste. The requirements are based on EN 15343:2007 and ISO 22095:2020.
RecyClass requires physical traceability of recycled plastics and requires proof of origin of pre- and post-consumer plastics for each other actor in the value chain. This is verified by audits by authorized certification companies.
RecyClass Consulting
Although the regulations for waste recovery companies and other players in the product line can be found on the RecyClass website, it is useful to conduct an internal audit before certification audits, during which possible deficiencies are revealed, which we can provide RecyClass consulting to fill with the help of our experience gained in similar systems.
